Plague Years

A plague breaks out. No one is sure where ground zero was or who patient zero was. With wormhole travel and long incubation, the plague shows up on several worlds simultaneously. The plague is highly contagious (easily spread), highly infectious (easily contracted) and usually fatal – especially with overwhelmed medical facilities. Since both communication and the plague travel through the wormholes, the disease arrives almost as fast as the news about the latest outbreaks. When quarantine procedures fail, panic ensues. People desperately flood the wormholes in search of safe havens. Despite the AIs efforts to maintain mass transit balance, many wormholes collapse and the web of connections begins to unravel. Planets and entire systems are lost with no indications if there are any human survivors left behind.
